Starter/generator shop put in a new set of brushes one time and motor ran backwards.would not pump.so I doubt the motor reverses for up and down on these. I think the motor must run to open a hold check valve. I assume solenoid valve is powered for one direction and not for the other. It runs pump motor in both up and down switch positions. I have a similar pump on a double acting cylinder. When power is off the solenoid is closed to hold the pressure. To raise or pump The electric valve or solenoid is powered when the motor runs to let oil pump up the cylinder.

If seperate, can you just run oil from valve to tank? To make it work on a single acting cylinder Im figuring power to the solenoid to run the motor and power to the valve to make it lift. There is one electric valve on each pump and one oil line out. The power to the motor is straight forward as it goes through a solenoid.
